November 2005 Nana and the Chocolate CakeHave you ever gotten dessert before dinner? I mean, a really incredible dessert that just oozes a size 14 and is dripping in XXL? Well, I did and I think back to that incredible 3 minutes with great anticipation. Yes, it took all of 3 minutes to eat it. We moved into the house completely and officially this weekend. It's a mess and I don't know where I put the clean plates, so we've been eating out of large, glass mixing bowls and frying pans. I also let someone very close to my heart go...Cherry. I traded her for someone else [I hope this doesn't come back to bite me in the butt in heaven]. I still got a Beetle [she's yellow and she's automatic]. I named her Nana >> [Ba]Nana. J was being very impatient about the stick-shift thing, so we made a practical move. Well, what seems practical. Nevertheless, I'm satisfied. Harry Potter opens TOMORROW! I don't think I can take any more excitment. Oh yeah, I start L'Occitane next week. hehehehe...it's all going pretty good. R happy. R very happy. I really expected things to be different. I think the factor that changes just how difficult it seems is that I'm optimistic about everything. We argue, but I know it's not going to end up in a tearful separation. Or we'll get home at 10 and it's okay that he sleeps in the Far East and I'm in the Distant West (sides of the bed). Optimism - it is one hell of a weapon!

November 2005 Happy Veterans DayToday is Veterans Day and because I am the soon-to-be wife of a veteran and because I am extremely grateful to all those men and women that served in all the wars previously and presently, I find it very necessary to dedicate this entry to this day. Do you know it's history?
Veterans Day is a holiday observed annually in the United States in honour of all those, living and dead, who served with the U.S. Armed Forces. Unlike Memorial Day, which honours those who have died in wartime, Veterans Day honors all who have served, in times of peace as well as in war. Veterans Day is observed on November 11. The holiday was originally called Armistice Day, and it commemorated the end of World War 1 on November 11, 1918. Fighting stopped at 11 a.m. on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
In 1919, on the first anniversary of the WWI armistice [which means "truce"], President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation expressing pride in the heroism of those who had died during the war. Business stopped for two minutes of silence starting at 11 a.m.. It later became customary to observe two minutes of silence from 11 a.m. Many states made Armistice Day a state holiday in the 1920s and 1930s, and in 1938, Congress declared it a federal holiday.
Too often veterans are overlooked because people don't really realize the sacrifices made during a time of war. So if you see or know a veteran or someone who is a part of the armed forces, thank them, congratulate them, honour them, because without them, our country would not be what it is today.
Thank you Veterans for all your sacrifice, dedication and loyalty to this country and to its citizens.
Have a blessed day!

![]() In honor, I have a question.
- If you could have a holiday for any reason and to honor anything, what would it be and why? - November 2005 here comes the...wedding plannerI got my first wedding to plan! Yes, that's right - I will soon become an official wedding planner. Aren't we all just ecstatic? I am. I am planning the reception for a wonderful young couple getting married 2 days after me. I still don't know how I'm going to work that out, but I'm a genius, so happiness will prevail. Now, you may be doubtful of my talents and powers, but I've studied the work of the best [Preston Bailey, Colin Cowie, David Tutera, Ina Garten) and with a little natural creativity and some incredible inspiration (and a good muse), this wedding party is going to be amazing and so memorable.
I've already begun drawing up several layouts and design possibilities and I am so excited! It's going to be a very busy end of the year, but I'm a professional *;o)
Can you say "Voila!"
PS: No, these aren't actual photos of the wedding - but I will do much bigger [and better] than this. Have a great day!

November 2005 I stole something from an Irish GirlI stole a quiz. It was really funny, so I thought I'd show all of you and then you can entertain other people. Sounds good, yeah I know!
And you should read her responses >> Irish Girl
Here we go:
Q1: Your chance of becoming a celebrity event designer/interior designer has finally arrived. You find out that you will be given $100,000.00 to start and after will be paid $40,000.00 for each event. The only catch is that your new boss wants you to become his personal call girl. What would you do?
Decline. Oprah has a lot of money, I'd just work really hard to replace her current event designer, Colin Cowie. It is a lot of money to decline, but from the gospel of hip-hop: "Mo' Money, Mo' Problems." And I feel that if someone is given something rather than expected to work for it, she won't respect or appreciate it [I specifically mean the opportunity now] like she's supposed to. Plus J would kick my behind.
Q2: What was the most embarrassing moment in your life?
Driving J's Benz into the bush in front of several cars in traffic. It was embarrassing, trust me and I won't go into details.
Q3: Did you have a security item as a child? No.
Q4: If you could move to anywhere in the U.S., where would you move? Uhh, to tell you the truth, I'd probably stay here in GA. It's warm, sunny, not flat, not too crowded, and where I live, there aren't too many natural disasters.
Q5: Your sitting at a bus stop headed to see a loved one that is on their death bed. You are waiting with two other people, one that is headed to see their son that had been taken from them as a child and had not seen for eighteen years, and a gentleman that has returned home from Iraq to his wife that just recently birthed their first child. A bus arrives but only two people will fit. Who would you pick to get on the bus, knowing that your loved one could pass away if you had to wait any longer?
The gentleman that has just returned from Iraq. The other person has waited 18 years so I don't think that waiting 15 more minutes for another bus would do too much harm.
Would you like to answer these questions?
C&P [copy. then paste]:

Hope I'll get some good answers!

November 2005 Top 10 Ways to Live AuthenticallyI was cleaning out old files on my computer and I came across this file. Now, this may sound like a flimsy excuse of a post, but I really haven't had any interesting experiences or anything to write about. It's not that I'm bored, but routine has a way of being not so interesting. I promise, however, to have something more entertaining soon. In the mean time, these are 10 guidelines I use to maintain a sense of success and accomplishment/fulfillment in life. Don't forget to tell me what you think!

Top Ten Ways to Live Authentically 1. Know your purpose Are you wandering through life with little direction – hoping that you’ll find happiness, health and prosperity? Identify your life purpose or mission statement and you will have your own unique compass that will lead you to your truth north every time. 2. Know your values What do you value most? Make a list of your top 5 values. Some examples are security, freedom, family, spiritual development, learning. As you set your goals - – check your goals against your values. If the goal doesn’t align with any of your top five values – you may want to reconsider it or revise it. 3. Know your needs Unmet needs can keep you from living authentically. Take care of yourself. Do you have a need to be acknowledged, to be right, to be in control, to be loved? List your top four needs and get them met! 4. Know your passions Honor those things that make your heart sing. Whatever it is, do more of it! 5. Live from the inside out Increase your awareness of your inner wisdom by regularly reflecting in silence. Commune with nature. Breathe deeply to quiet your distracted mind. 6. Honor your strengths What are your positive traits? What special talents do you have? List three – if you get stuck, ask those closest to you to help identify these. Are you imaginative, witty, good with your hands? Find ways to express your authentic self through your strengths. 7. Take time to play Give yourself time to recharge doing things you love to do or by just doing nothing. 8. Be aware of your self-talk Are you blocking your potential? Check out your first thoughts when you wake tomorrow. Are they supportive, encouraging or positive? Choose the kind of chatter that’s goes on in your mind. Become aware of the negative messages you give yourself. Gently catch them and turn them into positive affirmations. 9. Surround yourself with inspiration Keep a success journal. Write down your four or five greatest strengths and post them where you can see them. On the last Friday of each month, write down all your accomplishments both big and small. 10. Serve others When you live authentically, you may find that you develop an interconnected sense of being. When you are true to who you are, living your purpose and giving of your talents to the world around you, you give back in service what you came to share with others -your spirit – your essence.
PS: I want to add a No. 11: 11. Learn positive communication and break the habit of negative communication This is directed towards the relationships in your life. Negative relationships consists of berating the people in your life, name-calling, verbal abuse and silent treatment. Break those habits. Positive communication is not an easy habit to form, but it makes maintaining relationships much easier. *:o) November 2005 four walls, a skylight and a guestbookAs if things couldn't get "better", J and I officially closed on our first house together. There are no utilities yet, but we've visited a few times since Friday (closing date) and it's still as perfect as the day we toured it. It's little, only 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, but it's just right for me, him and the little Scottish Terrier that we've decided to get.
But, in my virtual home [here], I've had several new visitors that I really appreciate. Jamie is hosting S.S.N.W.: Say Something Nice Week and I've been visiting some awesome sites for the past 2 hours and in return, I get some really nice people to visit me. My guestbook is steadily filling up. I hope my house will eventually do the same: fill up with wonderful, loving people. Well, I want to say to all you new visitors, thank you for visiting and I appreciate your wonderful comments. You all have a wonderful week.
Assistance, please:
I'm excited to design the house and make it really pretty and everything, but I need your help. It's a small house, keep in mind, but I need design tips, ideas and advice. So, if you could, leave a note or two? Please?
Thanks bunches!
sugarie kisses *:o) xxx November 2005 fear lives in a steering wheel...I, the girl who signed yearbooks "Try everything at least once", is afraid. I, the girl who will fight for the last piece of oxtail or octopus or fish eye, is afraid. I, the girl who embraces voyeurism and the inevitable consequences of such, is...afraid. Of what? A driving test. Let's go back...
Some years ago...
I turned the age where most people begin learning how to drive, how to establish the car as an extension of the body, etc. I, however, did not. I'm from a single parent family and well, she just didn't have time. Neither did I - I was busy conquering the top spaces for opera singers in and around the area. Yes, I can sing opera - well too!Well, upon moving into the city, I realized that hey! I'll need to learn how to drive and get a car. One year passed. I met J and since he's a traditional/gentleman, I could escape having to drive. That didn't last for too long. I had to tell him and well, I'm here now. Silly me thought I could play Sex in the City and get away with not having to drive. I think it would've worked better if I too lived in New York.
But, today is the day that I prove to myself and to Cherry (my car - see picture below) that if need be, I can take her far away to the other side of the city. Or Vegas.
Wish me luck!

Update: I didn't go. My appointment was bumped (curse you DMV!). So, Wednesday is now the big day. That means I'll get to practice more and I'll be more confident. And we got the house. That's No. 3.
Time flies when you doin it big!

Who's Siobhan? She's only one of the best friends I've ever been blessed enough to have. We have an unusual friendship - we've never met face to face. This is the story. I met her online when I was dating the winner of "The Psycho Boyfriend" title. She was a friend of a friend of his - some complicated web of people I don't remember. But, I knew that she went to the all-girls boarding school that I mother attended. So, we started talking and because of the drama [negative communication, discussions and issues] between The Psycho and I, we fell apart. Until about 6 months ago when we walked back into each other's lives and it's been great ever since.
She's supportive [from my poetry to my justifications for crying over a text message] and attentive [when no one else comments, I can count on her to boost my numbers]. She's (as described above) very funny, very intelligent, and very adorable. If I gush anymore, J will start thinking certain things. I can't wait to meet her. However, her "first meeting" plan is very expensive. She wants me to fly to Europe to meet her, then we would fly to Thailand to be spontaneous together. Yes, I think she is a bit delusional. Either way, she'd still be my maid of honour...all dressed in light green.
I know that one day she's going to be the best therapist I've ever had and I just can't wait to be analyzed and criticized by her (I get it now, but I'm hoping if I pay her, it will be better -- kidding!). Regardless of all her idiosyncracies and mine, I love her very much and she is a treasured part of my life. I wish her well in university and I know she'll do well. I wish her the best in life and I pray that we continue to be friends until the wrinkles take over.
Shiv, you're the greatest and if it wouldn't confuse my kid, I would name my future daughter after you. But, we have the same middle name, so that's enough, right?

November 2005 the day of all daysToday is a new day. Thank You Lord for a new day. Today will be different from any other day.
Today is the day I finish my 15 page paper. Granted, I'm on only page 1 (don't tell J), but how hard can it be to write 14 more?
Today is the day I conquer my fears and get into my car and drive like there's no tomorrow! Wait...that's my fear! I'll get into the car, drive and then there will be no tomorrow. [whimper] I'm a big girl - I should probably stop crying on live Internet.
Today is the day I clean all the spaces (in my house) with a toothbrush. The attack has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. All the corners, crevices, and communitiies of dust bunnies will not be spared.
Today is the day I will do something spontaneous. (What's in my head? I'm going to plan a surprise dinner picnic for J tonight - after his late class...that's spontaneous, right?)
Today is the day I do something that I've never done before. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go research being spontaneous.

![]() November 2005 Philosophy III missed a month, so here's two by Tao:
October:
"If you want to be whole, you must first be partial. If you want to be straight, you must first be crooked. If you want to be full, you must first be empty. If you want to be reborn, you must first die. If you want everything, give everything up. If you don't display yourself, people will see your light. If you have nothing to prove, people will trust you. If you don't try to be something, people will see themselves in you. If you don't have a goal, you will always succeed."
-Tao
November:
"The path into the light is dark. The path foward is backward. True power seems weak, true purity seems tarnished, true resolve seems changeable, true clarity becomes obscure. The greatest art is unsophisticated, the greatest love indifferent, the greatest wisdom childish."

Sigh...if I could run away, I still wouldn't have anywhere to run. Is this what adulthood is all about?
Wasn't it supposed to be fun? Why did I think it would be fun?
How do people do it? How do people like Oprah do it? She has 1,000,000 things going on and she still finds the time to play with her dogs! It hasn't even gotten really busy yet (I don't know how I'll manage when I have to decorate the house for Christmas - repainting the walls and steaming the carpet included, cook, study for finals, go to work during the Christmas rush, still have time to Christmas shop and then actually ENJOY Christmas). It will get worse and I really don't know if I do do my best work under pressure or if that's just something I tell myself.
But, on the other hand,
My relationship is getting stronger every day, I'm enjoying blogging again, we're moving into our first house (yippee!), I'll finally get to attempt to drive my car, I'm getting a new camera, I'll begin working again (read: finally get some money), I'm enjoying writing the book/paper, I have no class tomorrow and I'm back on my "Before J" diet - no red meat, no lasagna, no heavy pasta, no extra sugar...actually healthy food that's good for my skin. Salmon - Omega 3! Spinach - Iron! Organic milk, eggs, cheese, etc. And my favourite: Marsha Marsha Marshmallow Ice Cream from the masters, Ben & Jerry! Things do look sunny...if I stand upside down.

![]() November 2005 the adventures of...okay, it's not that excitingI am in a very stick-y situation (that was a corny joke and I'll tell you why in a minute). I have to learn how to drive a manual (stick shift) car and I am more scared of that than I am of lizards - and you don't realize just how deep that fear runs! J and I got engaged on the 19th and he bought me a car (the New Beetle by Volkswagen) and unfortunately for me, it's not te easiest thing to drive. However, because I'm a trooper (and a big girl), I'll learn it, love it and suck it up. Wish me luck! [whimper]
In other news, I'm on a mission to ge into an energy-conserving habit/attitude. I was watching Oprah last week and Leornardo Dicaprio was visitng and he spread the word about global warming and the importance of making a conscious effort to lessen the emissions in our lives. So, how can you help?
1. Get better bulbs. The best choice is a compact flourescent bulb (from Home Depot) - you can get 6 for $10. Yes, they're a little pricier, but they'll save you money in electric/energy bills in the long run. Natural light, less energy and healthy for the environment! What's a little sacrifice?
2. Start a compost pile. Save your organic waste, give back to the soil and start a pretty garden. Simple enough, right?
3. Recycle! As if this one wasn't stressed enough. I've started using paper bags, over and over again. Plastic doesn't decompose (didn't know that, did you?), so when I get my groceries, I just get two big paper bags and reuse them as much as I can. Lunches, wrapping paper, or I'll just take them back to the grocery store with me. Better yet, get cloth grocery bags.
4. Carpool, walk or take public transportation once in a while. I'm not saying get extra close to your fellow commuter, but do you have to take the car for every errand you run? Try walking (America is STILL fat!), try public transportation (it's really not as bad as it seems - I do it every day) or carpool if you really love your car. Try to make an effort! It doesn't take much effort to ruin the world, but it will take a little to heal it. Think about the future!
Annually, over 250 billions TONS of pollution are released into the atmosphere. That doesn't sound healthy to you, does it? Although we (Americans) make up only 5% of the Earth's population, we emit 25% of the pollution. Every person in America gives off 94 lbs. daily. 94 lbs! I am looking out for my kids, my grandkids and my old age.
Pollution, emissions specifically, causes the temperature of the atmosphere to increase. Granted it's only 1-2 degrees every 5 years, but a few degrees increase in the atmospheric temperature will make Katrina look like a thunderstorm.
Please help Mother Nature!
